You make your trek back through broken forest. You notice that animals keep clear of you, but you always catch a glimpse of them watching you, a bird here, a stag there. Any time you turn to look back, the animal runs off.
You have a few encounters with weak monsters, but nothing dangerous. You walk back into the small village, and the children immediately run to their parents.
The children and parents are overjoyed at being reunited. However, many of the citizens do not look so happy to see the children returned. Very quickly you realize why this is. The village made a Faustian deal with the beastmen. The beastmen would take five children, and let the the rest of the village live. The other choice was to kill every man and woman, and simply take all the children.
As Daven Guswell, the head of the guard, and defacto mayor explains this to you, you realize that you have never seen a man both full of anger and thanks simultaneously.

Krystal sighs and flicks her hair back. She has spent the past day with the children, taking care of them and watching out for them. Having grown a bit attached she frons. "Then we will eliminate all of them. Experimenting on Children? Abhorrent."
With a pause she also quirks a brow at a thought "And why not send messengers for reinforcements? An invasion of beastmen would draw at least a dozen soldiers from a nearby city i assume if not more"

Reinforcement, no one wants to send troops into the middle of no where, and we don't even know where the beastmen are coming from.
If you could find out where they are coming from and stop it. We would give you everything this town has.

Krystal glances to the others of her party "I don't know about them, but I'd happily hunt them just for what they've done. Experimenting on children is deserving of death."

(rewind - Wondering if this is normal critter behavior, or do these animals seem overly skittish - (Nature d20+11))
Maglor glowers at Dowen with visible disgust in his eyes. "While I pity you and your people, you must know that what you have done is a horrible thing. Such deals with evil foes will always come back to haunt you. They would demand more and more of you, until you were all eventually dead, or worse. I pray that the gods will forgive you for not trying to defend your children."
*Turns his back to the guardsmen.
Shaking his head "Give us all the information you have. We will do all we can to right this wrong."

The animal behavior is not normal. It seems to you like the animals are watching you.
The Guard raises his voice as Maglor leaves "Spoken like a man who has never been confronted with a hard choice"

A thin man runs up to Sar, out of breath he hands her a letter.
"This is from your guild madam."
The letter reads.
"My friends we have done some investigating on those skulls you keep finding, and have some important information. Stop. No don't write out the word stop. Look I know using a goblin as a scribe can be hard, but... are you writing this out. No! I mean stop it. Good grief. Just get back here as soon as you can, it looks like you'll be going across the sea. Thank you.
Signed Sir Rauli.
Hmm, I could go for a BLT. We're done stop writing you green skinned..."
