So, what do you all think about using the unesignated magic item system?
Would you rather I work off your wish lists, or do the Magic weapon of level 6 or less things?

What's the "Magic item of Level 6 or less thing"? I think having magic items that we would really like, and just 'happen to find' is a bit unrealistic. I don't know if that's what you're talking about or not. . . but I think that if you could increase the selling price of magic items, and then the party could afford to have our own items forged. Then again, having to wait for that special weapon you REALLY want is also quite fun and very rewarding when we finally ascertain set item.
But, in truth, I'm not 100% sure what the topic is about. I was just hoping I could help. :$

I gotta say I liked it, it lets us spread the loot out to people who need it, instead of relying on the person who needs something wanting one of the random items.
Example: We gave Sar one of the magic weapons from the pile, because she needs to hit to be effective, something we couldn't do unless you had thrown a songblade into the loot.
You still get control over the level of the gear, and we get the kind of stuff we want (even if it's not our top choice of item because the level isn't right)

I like the new system but i also think it shouldn't be used too often. I'm kind of the opinion it should be bundles of crap with one or two gems. Not every item or even most should be what you desire, but there should always be one or two things a player should want. Big loot encounters (like in this case the hoarde, a boss, etc) should be most or all "Insert item of choice here". For smaller encounters, i'd suggest something like 1-2 "Insert boots of choice" "Insert gloves of choices" and 2-3 /random items. Don't make EVERY item what we want. But make it so for every 2-3 pieces of POSSIBLY Good gear, we're guaranteed an upgrade. Ya know?
I think thats acceptable myself. It doesn't force you to limit how many magic items we get (or else we will all be sporting FULL sets of magic gear by level 10, with a dozen wonderous items per person). But it does make sure we don't get shafted. I'd say rule of thumb, every third or fourth magical item 'found' (again not including rewards/big boss battles) should be a 'choose it yourself'.

To be honest, I didn't like it, but I could live with it.
Finding templates just seems... odd. I guess I'm a bit old school, even the idea of wish lists took some getting used to for me.
I definitely did not like having to figure it out mid-session.

Okay opinions seem to be a bit mixed. So what I think I will do is mix the systems. Some times you will find specific items, and occasionally you will find one magic item of level X or lower.
As for finding the stuff in the middle of the encounter, well that wasn't planned. We just had two people not show up twice in a row, and I didn't want to run the final encounter.
Those people are no longer in the group, and we have one new player. Trying to find a sixth player.
